Project Description

PTCUL is an Indian state utility in Uttarkhand situated in northern part of India.

This is a 220/33kV substation, being the first gas insulated substation (GIS) in the state. The project is to provide complete substation automation system.

It includes communication with protection relay, energy meters using Gateway and SCADA software. The local SCADA is used for monitoring and control operation of the switch gear equipment.

The project involves 50 relays communicating in IEC61850, 20 energy meters communicating in Modbus. The project had 6000 tags to be read in Gateway and SCADA.

Key Features

  • All the automation related devices are time Synchronised with GPS clock using SNTP protocol.
  • Industrial grade SCADA servers with redundancy architecture.
  • All the communication network is on fiber optics with dual ring topology.
  • The meters are connected in daisy chain method for RS-485 network.
  • IEC61850 complaint managed Ethernet switches.
  • SCADA monitoring of breaker, isolator status through BCU.
  • Control operations through bay control unit (BCU).
  • SCADA line colouring - Flow based and Energy based.
